Fledgling Frenzy

We had been warned that our Redstarts from last week had fledged, so we didn't try checking near the nest.  On the opposite side of the field were some posts along the fencing separating off the conifer woodland.  Here, we managed to obtain glimpses of both Redstart parents feeding their chicks.  in the afternoon  they moves into the scrubby bushes much nearer to their nest site.  This area also contained 2 Spotted flycatchers who were still feeding their chicks in the nest.  They continued to remove faecal sacks through the entire afternoon stopover.  Elsewhere it was a butterfly and botanical day.  However, because of the overcast conditions in the morning there were much fewer butterflies than was hoped for.  We did see a couple of striking Wood Tiger Moths, so that was a bonus!
